The H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu) Vaccine
The H1N1 vaccine is being made available to us by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. There are 2 forms of the vaccine - the injectable form (what most people think of as a flu shot), and the nasal spray form, known as the flu mist.
We are currently out of stock of the injectable version.
We currently have the flu mist version available.
Shipments of the H1N1 vaccine – both nasal spray and injectable vaccine - will continue to arrive throughout this month and into the winter. H1N1 flu vaccine is arriving in very limited quantities, and the vaccine is initially recommended for the following groups:
- Pregnant woman
- Caregivers and people in contact with children 6 months or younger
- Healthcare and emergency medical personnel
- All people from 6 months to 24 years of age
- People ages 25-64 years old who have health conditions
Not all people in the groups above may get the injectable version.
Groups who can not get the injectable H1N1 vaccine (these are government requirements that PromptMD and all providers must abide by):
- People with allergies to egg or egg products
- People who have had allerigic reactions to an influenza vaccine
- Children under the age of 4
This injectable vaccine is NOT thimerosal free
Dosage for the H1N1 injectable vaccine:
- Children 4-9 get two injections one month apart
- Children 10-17 get one IM injection
- Adults 18 and older get one IM injection
